Durga Prasad Srestha to get 17th Parasmani Puraskar literary award

Eminent literary figure and editor of Varanasi (UP) based Nepali daily “Uday”, Durga Prasad Srestha, has been named for the 17th Parasmani Puraskar – 2014. Kalimpong Nepali Sahitya Adhayan Samity’s former president TB Thakuri announced Srestha’s name today for the prestigious literary award. Durga Prasad Srestha, who is also a recognized writer in Hindi, has been chosen for this award for his dynamism in Nepali literature in-spite of being an active writer in Hindi literature.

On the occasion of 126th birth anniversary of late Parasmani Pradhan, the Kalimpong Nepali Sahitya Adhayan Samity organized a meeting to announce the name of 17th Parasmani Puraskar winner. The award will be handed over to Shresta on January 26 at a function which will be held here at the town hall.

Organization’s secretary Balabhadra Sharma said, “The selection committee of the organization had chosen Shrestra’s name, and following executive committee’s approval, his name has been declared final.”

75 year old Durga Prasad Shrestra has published around 15 books in Nepali until now, which include collections of short stories, poems, critic writings, biographies and others. He has also been honoured by the Uttar Pradesh government for his collection of short stories “Sattare Mausi”. Besides, he has also received “Kusumkumari Puraskar” at international level and “Bhanu Puraskar” from Deharadun.
