GTA delegation met Tribal Affairs Minister for inclusion of 11 Gorkha communities in ST list

GTA delegation led by Bimal Gurung and  S.S Ahulwalia Hon’ble MP, Darjeeling along with GTA members Benoy Tamang, Anit Thapa, Satish Pokhrel and GJM Central Committee Member, Deven Sharma met Jual Oram, Hon’ble Minister of Tribal Affairs at Delhi for the immediate inclusion of 11 Gorkha communities from throughout India namely Bhujel, Gurung, Mangar, Newar, Jogi, Khas, Rai, Sunwar, Thami, Yakhha (Dewan) and Dimal in the List of Schedule Tribes under the Government of India.

Bimal Gurung in his social media page Bimal Gurung Official released the following statement .

“Shri Jual Oram gave a positive hearing and has called for meeting in September which will be held between Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Registrar General of India (RGI) and GTA to discuss the modalities for the inclusion of these 11 communities in the central list of Schedule Tribes. Shri S.S Ahulwalia and me will also be present in this meeting.

In the letter addressed to the Hon’ble Tribal Minister, I have asked that the 11 Gorkha communities living across India should be included in ST List of the Government of India.

A GTA delegation had earlier met the Hon’ble Minister on 12th August 2014 and again on 19th December 2014 with representatives from the 10 communities.

The demand of the inclusion of these communities in Schedule Tribe List was stated in the agreement of the Memorandum of Agreement of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration which was signed on 18th July, 2011 at Pintail Village,Sukna in the presence of Shri P. Chidambaram, the than Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Mamata Banerjee, Hon’ble Chief Minister, West Bengal and Shri Bima”
