| Gorkhaland cannot be formed with the GTA – CPRM |
“The people of the hills have promoted a BJP candidate to represent Darjeeling in Parliament to help form a BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. The GJM should respect the mandate and sentiments of the people and discard the GTA to take forward the Gorkhaland movement,” said CPRM spokesperson Govind Chettri.
He added, “People here have voted for the BJP hopeful the party will fulfill their long-standing statehood demand. Now, it remains to be seen what move the central government makes. We hope the NDA government makes the right moves.”
Chettri pointed out that if the GJM were to discard the GTA, the state government is in no position to take over and run it. The GTA is just a ploy to run the hills’ affairs as per the state government’s terms and if a Gorkhaland state is to be achieved, it is best to stay far away from it.
