North Bengal University goes online

North Bengal University (NBU) has announced a centralised online admission system for its 54 affiliated colleges. Institutions run by minority bodies and private colleges will not be part of this process. The procedure for students is as follows

PORTAL REGISTRATION

A student will have to fill an application form on the portal giving details about him, the institution he studied in, the board he passed from and the registration number of the board. A unique identification number will be generated after this process, which has to be filled in a specified column in the form. An e-challan will be generated, which will have to be deposited at any branch of the SBI and a payment made.

FILLING FORMS

Payment made, students will have access to the list of colleges and subjects offered by the institutions and can start applying. “After 24 hours of depositing the fees, the students will be able to upload the marks secured in the Plus-II examinations in the portal. A student can select from 15 courses or colleges, in whatever combination he likes. If a student wants to apply for BA honours in political science only, he can apply in 15 colleges. But instead, if he wants to apply for BA honours in English, sociology and history, he can select five colleges for each course or any other combination of colleges or courses.

MERIT LIST

After the application process is over, NBU will process the applications and publish the college-wise and subject-wise merit list. The list will be put up on the website and sent to the colleges. There will be a cut-off date for admission of students who figure on the first list released by NBU. After the cut-off date, a second list or subsequent lists will be released.
