Army recruitment rally at 58 Gorkha Training Centre Grounds

An Army recruitment rally that began in Shillong from 22 August will continue till August 27.The rally was organised at 58 Gorkha Training Centre Grounds, Happy Valley, which was mainly for the candidates from Meghalaya for Soldier General Duty and Tradesmen.

Amidst incessant rain, large number of candidates turns up for the event.
Over 5300 candidates have responded over the last four days and over 3600 (till last reports) have already participated in the one mile run. Over 700 candidates have passed the run and have been registered i.e their digital photos have been captured along with their thumb impressions.

The rains have made the track muddy and difficult, but the candidates showed great strength, stamina and enthusiasm by participating with vigour despite the conditions.

The Army representatives said that the conditions adds an additional element of difficulty, but enables the best candidates to be selected, which is the ultimate aim – to select the best. The Army and District Administration have jointly made excellent arrangements for the rally. District Administration has provided buses for move of candidates from Assam Bazar to the Marshalling Area Mosbuit. After pre-height and preliminary document check, the candidates are taken by buses to the rally grounds. Free meals were provided to candidates selected in the run. Many enterprising people have established paid food stalls also.
Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier RV Singh, Deputy Director Recruiting NE States, appreciated the enthusiasm of the candidates who had turned up in large numbers despite the adverse weather conditions. He complimented them on their strength and stamina in being able to participate and complete the 1600 metres run in such tough conditions. He expressed his appreciation for the excellent support and cooperation being provided by the State and District Administrations. He specially thanked Shri Sanjay Goyal, DC East Khasi Hills, Mrs Majaw, ADC and Mr Warkey, Secretary Dorbar Shnong Mosbuit. There are many others of the State and District administration who are working behind the scene. Everyone is doing his job with enthusiasm. He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Brig RS Thakur, Commandant 58 Gorkha Training Centre. Lieutenant Colonel SS Sachdeva of 58 Gorkha Training Centre, was the main coordinator. Colonels Amar Singh, Sameer Sharma & Sharoan Martin, of Army recruiting centre Shillong, Jorhat and Aizwal have been instrumental in successful conduct of the rally.

The rally will continue till 28 August for medical and on 31 August 2014, the written exam will be held at the Army Public School, Shillong. This was informed by Group Captain Amit Mahajan Defence PRO.
The PRO informed that the performance in written exam has been a worry, especially in Technical and Clerks categories. After 25 percent negative marking has been introduced on 01 April 2014, in the technical category, in the written exam on 25 May 2014, only 2 of 68 had passed and in the written exam on 27 July 2014, none out of 38 candidates passed.

There are large number of technical vacancies and candidates who are eligible for the written exam should prepare well so that all candidates pass and are recruited. Candidates should study science with at least Maths and English upto class 12th. Select students should study Physics, Chemistry, Maths, English and if feasible Biology till class 12th and score good marks – minimum 50 percent with at least 45 percent in each individual subject.
